Preparing for Lent: Heart, Mind, and Soul

Here's a friendly Public Service Announcement: Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, which falls next Wednesday, March 6, 2019. If Lent is something unfamiliar to you, let me offer a brief definition:

Lent is a period of 40 days (six weeks, excluding Sundays) spent in preparation for Easter. Often we are invited to give something up or fast from something during Lent — a reminder to notice when we habitually reach for chocolate, or coffee, or a hamburger ... and to turn instead to Jesus. Another way to observe lent might be through taking on something new to draw us to Jesus: a new kind of prayer, a specific Scripture reading, or a regular meeting with a friend.

Here’s a quick intro from Tish Harrison Warren about what we’re doing (and what we’re not doing) during Lent:

Here are a few resources from The Well if you’d like to take on a lenten engagement with Scripture.

Or, maybe you’re not feeling it. You’re not alone:

Keep an eye out over the next six weeks for more lenten reflections at The Well. However you decide to engage (or not) with this liturgical season, we know that he is walking near to you.
