On Hope & Courage: A Summer Roundtable Conversation

“I think this would be a perfect time to choose to trust God with your future and with your present and just spend some time with him in nature, with other colleagues in prayer, in the word, etc.“ — Dr. Denise-Margaret Thompson

Four esteemed guests join us on the podcast to discuss how we can reflect on this school year and enter into summer from a place of spiritual vitality.

What does it look like to enter into summer from the position of this current cultural moment? We’ve invited four guests to participate in a roundtable discussion for this special episode as we wrap up our podcast season for this academic year. You’ll get to hear from four women with expertise in university culture, spiritual formation, and faith-work integration as we talk about the uniqueness of the days we’re living through. In this conversation, we’ll talk about the challenges we are seeing on campus these days and the opportunities we have to respond faithfully. We also talk about how to wrap up the school year and enter into summer with a posture that is reflective and intentional and life-giving. I think you’ll really enjoy this episode, and if you listen to the end of the credits, you’ll hear a blessing that we are praying over all of our listeners.

So jump right in! We're so glad you're here.

You can listen on iTunes or at The Women Scholars and Professionals Podcast. We hope you enjoy this conversation as much as we did.

Kathy Cooper (BA, Yale ’88; MDiv, Regent College ’08) loves helping people come alive to Jesus through Scripture, whether leading in-depth Bible study discussions, teaching people how to reflect theologically about their work, or listening for God’s presence in the sharing of life stories. Kathy has worked with InterVarsity for 35 years in a variety of roles, most recently as the Northeast Regional Director for Graduate & Faculty Ministries. Last summer Kathy made a happy decision to return to local ministry on campus, focusing on ministry with faculty at Brown University and universities in Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts.

Kathy and her husband Keith live in Providence, Rhode Island and have three adult daughters and a wonderful son-in-law. Kathy enjoys gardening, cooking, reading (mostly fiction), and good conversation. Over the years, it’s been a joy to get to know refugees in Rhode Island through the non-profit Keith directs, Beautiful Day.

Karen Hice Guzmán is the Director of Women Scholars and Professionals. Except for some years taken off to raise children, Karen has spent her adult life in and around InterVarsity. She loves to use her gifts of hospitality and teaching to create a welcome place to connect with God and one another. Karen has a BS in Horticulture from Michigan State University and lives in Marietta, Georgia. She and her husband have three adult sons and a daughter-in-law. She loves dark chocolate, good coffee, and British TV.
