Welcome to a New School Year

It’s August, and we’re so glad to be back here with you!

I’m one of those people who hears advice about taking breaks in order to energize your work — and then nods in agreement while ignoring it in practice. This break was different. Stepping away from our usual publication schedule provided the nudge I needed to create space for restoration and reflection. Our team met regularly to discuss our big-picture goals and the paths we’re taking to get there. We made some important decisions, took time to think clearly, and learned more about  the importance of making time for different kinds of work – and that really doing so pays off. We’re doing some thinking about sustainable ways to integrate these kinds of rhythms into our ongoing work schedule. Do you have any useful advice to share?

This pause in our regular schedule gave us an opportunity to do deep work, and we’re delighted to share some of the fruit of that with you today:

  1. We have a new name! As of today, you can call us “Women Scholars and Professionals.” We might shorten that to WSAP from time to time. We’re the same organization as Women in the Academy and Professions and we have the same purpose, but our new name will help us to align better with other ministries within InterVarsity (while also helping us to avoid unhelpful references to pop songs that shared our previous acronym). You’ll also notice that our podcast name is changing as well. If you’re subscribed, it will still show up in your feed, but with the descriptive name “The Women Scholars and Professionals Podcast.”

  2. We’re trying out a new platform for our newsletter! You may notice a slight change in the look of the letter, and we’re excited about trying out some new features like comments and polls. But mostly, we hope that our transition to this new email platform will be seamless so that we can get back to providing you with excellent content at the intersection of faith, women, and academia.

  3. And speaking of new content, we’ve got a fabulous line-up this fall! We have authors lined up to share their best wisdom as we approach a new school year. Watch for new offerings from our podcast, including a fresh series of “Dear Mentor” interviews and a hot-off-the-press interview with Dr. Beth Allison Barr. Our Fall Bookclub on Felicia Song’s Restless Devices will begin in a few weeks (sign up here) and don’t forget to see if an online prayer meeting might fit into your schedule!

We have high hopes for this next school year, and we hope you do too! We’re here to support you in any way we can, so if you have a burning question or a need for connection, we’d love to get an email from you. Stay tuned for more content coming your way!
